Everyone at our practice is committed to providing you with the very best in pet healthcare. Our veterinary team bring a wealth of experience to the practice and have individually obtained high standards of professional qualification.

  • Laura Askew - AVC (Web)

    Laura

    Clinical Director / Veterinary Surgeon

    Laura joined Ashlea in 2010 after qualifying as a veterinary surgeon in 2006.

    Laura loves being a general practitioner- enjoys the variety and seeing new things even though has been qualified for over 20 years! Laura loves making a difference to animals, clients and being part of a fun and compassionate team.

    She has two children, and enjoys family time, especially baking and crafts. Laura also enjoys running and walking. She is currently working her way through the wainwrights with her family. Laura also has a caravan and loves exploring West Islands of Scotland with ger husband and two children.

     

     

     

  • Marie Coleman - AVC (Web)

    Marie

    Practice manager

    Marie qualified as a registered veterinary nurse from Myerscough College in 2008, and joined the Ashlea team 2015.

    She has a special interest in dentistry and has been awarded a certificate in oral care. Out of work she enjoys going for walks with dog companion Bruce, as well as swimming and DIY.

     

     

     

     

  • Lyndsay Sharpe - AVC (Web)

    Lyndsay

    Deputy practice manager

    Lyndsay has been a member of our team since 2017.

    She loves looking after our patients and making sure our clients and their pets are content.

    She has a ginger cat called Charlie and a Labrador called Paddy.

    In her spare time she enjoys going on adventures with her toddler and husband

     

     

     

     

  • Kirsty

    Kirsty

    Senior Veterinary Surgeon

    Kirsty established Ashlea with husband Chris in 1994, and has been caring for the pets of Carlisle ever since. She has special interests in dentistry and old cats.

    She has two dogs, buttons and Saffy. She likes spending time in the Lake District and when not working can often be found out running with Saffy the English setter.

     

     

     

     

  • Katherine Hodgson - AVC (Web)

    Kathryne

    Veterinary Surgeon

    Kathryne has been with the Ashlea team since 2013, after qualifying as a veterinary surgeon in 2004.

    She has a particular interest in rabbits, small furries & exotics – a passion that has seen her bring two bunnies into her own home, Percy & Morganna Le Fey.

    Kathryne also has a keen interest in ultrasonography.

    You can often find Kathryne either swimming,cycling or running to keep fit. In November 2025 she took part in the frog Graham. This is running just over 40 miles, ascending and descending 15,750 feet over the North Western Lake District fells, and then swimming across Bassenthwaite Lake, Crummock Water, Buttermere and Derwentwater before finishing where it all started at Keswick’s Moot hall.

     

     

     

  • Morag

    Morag

    Veterinary Surgeon

    Morag is an experienced vet who has been practicing since 1982, and joined the Ashlea team in 2009. She is particularly interested in acupuncture and surgery.

    She has a couple Hungarian vizslas, as well as Rooster and Scoot the cats. At home she can usually be found in the garden, pottering in the borders.

     

     

     

  • Alex Ruiz - AVC (Web)

    Alex

    Veterinary Surgeon

    Alex graduated in October 2024.

    Alex has a keen interest in behavior, surgery, anesthesia and pain relief.

    In his spare time he likes to read, listen to music and get messy with arts and crafts.

     

     

  • Katy Clarke - AVC (Web)

    Katy

    Senior Registered Veterinary Nurse

    Katy is a registered veterinary nurse here at Ashlea and joined the team in 2002.

    Katy is in charge of the lab so if anything goes wrong, we all run got her for help!

    She has a labrador called Frankie as well as two mischievous and energetic boys. She likes spending time outside, and loves to get out walking Frankie.

     

     

     

     

  • Rebecca

    Rebecca

    Registered Veterinary Nurse

    Rebecca joined Ashlea after qualifying as a registered veterinary nurse from Edinburgh Telford College in 2015.

    She is particularly interested in canine behaviour. In 2026 she completed her Advanced Programme of Veterinary Nursing in Reptiles and Amphibians. Go Becca!

     

    At home you can find Becca either baking or running around after her two toddlers.

    Amy

    Registered Veterinary Nurse

    Amy Moved to Cumbria from London in 2020. She qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 2019 from College of Animal Welfare.

    Amy has an interest in In-patient care and pain management.

    Amy has an menagerie at home which includes 2 dogs, a tortoise and African land snails!

    Registered Veterinary Nurse

    Emma qualified from Harper Adams University in July 2023, she competed her training alongside Ashlea vets and joined the team properly in August 2023.

    Emma has an interest in in-patient care and outside of work enjoys walking her dog Sadie and reading.

  • Amy Ridley - AVC (Web)

    Ami

    Registered Veterinary Nurse

    Ami qualified in 2022, she has interests in behaviour, pain management, physiotherapy & nutrition.

    Ami moved up to Cumbria from Hampshire with her dog Bear, she enjoys exploring the lakes and fells with Bear.

    Ami also runs our puppy classes.

    Registered Veterinary Nurse

    Sarah Joined the Team in June 2023 to start her journey to becoming a registered Veterinary Nurse. Sarah qualified in February 2026.

    Sarah has a keen interest in operations and anesthesia no matter how big or small!

    Outside of work Sarah enjoys spending time walking her dog, Millie, swimming and riding horses

    Cheri

    Kennel Assistant

    Cheri joined the Ashlea team in May 2021.

    Cheri is a great help around the practice and isn’t afford to get stuck in!

    In her spare time she enjoys going out for rides in the countryside with her horse Honey and walking her dog Nellie who is a cockerpoo.

     

     

     

     

  • Tracey Murray - AVC (Web)

    Tracey

    Receptionist

    Tracey Joined us in January 2024 as a receptionist.

    Tracey enjoys travelling and visiting new places, she has a caravan so spends most of summer weekends touring the UK. Tracey also enjoys cooking and entertaining for family and friends.

    At work, Tracey is the chief tea & coffee maker.

    Receptionist

    Katie is part of our receptionist team and joined Ashlea in 2019. She has a dog called Alfie.

    Katie is a happy and smiley face on reception and loves giving pets a treat or two when they come in.

    Outside of work you can find Katie being kept on her toes by her Toddler, Kora!

    Lucie

    Receptionist

    Lucie has been with the Ashlea team as a receptionist since 2019.

    Lucie has a keen interest in making sure all our lovely clients feel welcomed when they come in. Lucie is responsible for all the plants in reception. She doesn’t trust anyone else to look after them!

    At home you can find Lucie in her garden/allotment or spending time with her two boys and husband.
